8 (+1) Gifts that Give Back This Holiday Season

What could be better than gifting the perfect present to a loved one? How about if that present gave back to a cause! There are so many companies out there supporting inspiring organizations and noble causes that we wanted to highlight a few this holiday season.

Gifts That Give Back for the Holidays

The companies listed below give back in some way through the sale of their products. Many causes, issues, or platforms are covered in this short but mighty post, covering topics such as:

  • social issues
  • the environment
  • health

Let’s talk about some products that deserve your attention before you decide where you’ll be focusing your purchase power for the holidays!

Gifts that Give Back to Fight Hunger

Seattle Chocolate

Any list that starts out with chocolate is obviously an important list, in our opinion! Woman-owned Seattle Chocolate not only delivers in exceptional taste and premium ingredients that are Rainforest Alliance certified and non-GMO, they also have a giving back platform that any chocolate-lover would find inspiring.

Through sales of their JCOCO chocolate bars, Seattle Chocolate aims to fight hunger and food insecurity affecting millions of Americans daily in the United States. With every JCOCO bar purchased, Seattle Chocolate donates one serving of healthy food to those in need through partnerships with food banks in Washington state, California and New York. To date, they’ve donated over 3 million servings of healthy food to those in need.

Experience how #chocolatefightshunger by gifting any of their delectable JCOCO flavors, such as Black Fig Pistachio, Cayenne Veracruz Orange, Coconut Pecan, and many more. (Hint: They fit perfectly into stockings!)

FEED

Because hunger is a daily reality of 795 million people around the world, we’ve decided to highlight not one, but two companies who are giving back to the cause. FEED, started by Lauren Bush in 2007, engages customers in the fight against hunger through the sale of their complete line of products, including bags and jewelry.

To date, FEED has contributed over 103.3 million meals around the world through school meals, mother-child nutrition, emergency food aid and more. Additionally, some of FEED’s products are artisan made in local communities around the globe, providing sustainable livelihoods to underserved populations. Check out their Holiday Lookbook with beaded and embroidered bags, handcrafted by artisans in India.

It can’t be said better than on the FEED website, “With your purchase, you provide more than just meals. You give hope for a better future.”

Gifts that Give Back to Education

Evolution Salt Co.

This holiday season, we can all shine a little light into the world through our conscious gift giving. One such conscious gift that gives back is our Aromatherapy Himalayan Salt Lamp. With each purchase of an Evolution Salt Co. Aromatherapy Pink Salt Lamp, we will donate 50% of the profit of that lamp to Shining Light International, a non-profit dedicated to creating opportunities and empowering communities through education in order to break the cycle of injustice and poverty.

Shining Light International addresses the needs of the most oppressed and isolated people in Northern Pakistan, the country our Himalayan Salt Lamps come from. Gifting an Aromatherapy Lamp to loved ones will not only be a source of light in their world, but also into the lives of those in Shining Light’s community development programs. This season, consider giving this gift of light.

Our Aromatherapy Salt Lamp is a striking piece of home decor and diffuser all in one. Oils can be combined in the metal cup at the top of the salt lamp. As the oils are warmed by the heat of the bulb, their aroma infuses the space.

Sudara

Sudara is empowering women in India through living wage employment, skill training and education, providing opportunity and hope to survivors and those most at risk of sex trafficking. Through the sale of their apparel, Sudara shares stories of these women, the very women who make the colorful Punjammmies, robes, and other loungewear in their collection.

Since Sudara began more than ten years ago, hundreds of women have found freedom through their living-wage employment, and many who have graduated from Sudara’s training programs have gone on to start their own tailoring business. Spread joy this holiday season by gifting any of the fun, lively, and colorful apparel in Sudara’s collection.

Gifts that Give Back to the Environment

TenTree

TenTree’s promise is in their name. For every item of clothing sold, they plant 10 trees! To date, that equates to more than 24 million trees in 10+ countries. Their goal by 2030 is to plant 1 billion trees.

But that’s not all. The fabric used in TenTree apparel is all sustainable, whether it’s organic cotton, recycled polyester, hemp, cork or coconut. They take great pride in their vision to revitalize the environment while reducing the negative impact of the apparel industry. We’re going to go out on a limb here, and wholeheartedly agree with that vision. Contributing to the betterment of our planet not only serves Earth and all who live here, it also sets an example for future generations to follow.

Juniper Ridge

Need some essential oil to pair with your Aromatherapy Salt Lamp gift? Head on over to the Juniper Ridge website. Not only are their oils 100% natural and wildcrafted, they also carry the aroma of the great outdoors. Choose from scents like Cascade Forest, Coastal Pine and Desert Cedar, among others.

Naturally, Juniper Ridge loves the environment. They wildharvest their plants with extreme consciousness and care, and participate in native plant restoration projects all along the West Coast of the US. Additionally, because Juniper Ridge is so passionate about protecting and promoting intact forest habitats, they donate 10% of all profits each year to a portfolio of Western Wilderness Defense Organizations.

We adore the natural scents of forests, and if we can’t be wandering in them everyday, Juniper Ridge oils diffusing in our Aromatherapy Lamp are the next best thing. (Oh, and they have a “Christmas Fir” oil, which we think would be perfect for this time of year!)

Gifts that Give Back to Health

S’well

Sarah Kauss started S’well in 2010 with the mission to rid the world of plastic water bottles. Although a lofty goal, it’s an admirable one, and while they’re working on that vision through the sale of their stylish stainless steel bottles, they’re also making some amazing contributions in the name of health.

Lack of clean water is a major health concern around the world. Since 2015, S’well has committed $800,000 to UNICEF USA to provide clean and safe water to the world’s most vulnerable communities. They also support programs to build infrastructure, educate families on water-borne diseases and promote sustainable, long-lasting change in national health reform. And that’s not all. S’well also donates to (RED), to fight AIDS and the Breast Cancer Research Fund, in their efforts to find a cure and promote health.

Their beautiful bottles and glasses come in all sizes, and are part work of art, part eco-friendly necessity.

Love Your Melon

We absolutely adore the name of this company, and all that they’re doing to support the fight against pediatric cancer. Through Beanie Giving Events at hospitals around the country, Love Your Melon gives hats to children battling cancer. To date, they’ve given almost 150,000.

In addition to their beanie giving, Love Your Melon has donated close to 5 million dollars to support nonprofit partners in the fight against pediatric cancer. Fifty percent of all net profit from the sale of Love Your Melon products goes toward this growing fund, which helps create therapeutic experiences and fund charitable programming initiatives for children and families affected by cancer.

Their shop features beanies (obviously!), as well as scarves, blankets, apparel, home goods and accessories. May we recommend while you shop through the Love Your Melon site, that you also head on over to “Send a Smile” to a child battling cancer? Input your words of encouragement to these little superheroes, and Love Your Melon will personally deliver them to children undergoing treatment. It sure puts a smile on OUR faces!
